Information we collect

DressDex collects limited information to improve your experience. This covers the following.

• Usage data. Pages visited, time on site, and interactions with our content.
• Device information. Browser type, operating system, and screen size.
• Cookies. Small data files stored on your device to remember preferences such as your selected market region and your cookie consent choice.

We do not collect personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it, for example through the submission form or a contact message.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to do the following.

• Provide and improve our dress code guides and recommendations.
• Remember your preferences, such as your preferred market region.
• Analyse site usage to understand which content is most helpful.
• Display relevant product recommendations and deals.

Cookies and tracking technologies

DressDex uses cookies for essential site functionality and, with your consent, for analytics and advertising purposes. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie consent banner. We use the following types of cookies.

• Essential cookies. Required for the site to function, covering your market preference and your consent choice.
• Analytics cookies. Help us understand how visitors interact with our site through Google Analytics, loaded only once you consent.
• Marketing cookies. Used to display relevant advertisements, loaded only once you consent.

Third party services

DressDex partners with retailers through affiliate programmes. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These third party retailers have their own privacy policies governing the data they collect.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, active only once you consent through the cookie banner. If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is held by our newsletter provider, Buttondown, solely to send you that newsletter. Our forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a challenge that confirms you are a person rather than automated software, without asking you to solve a puzzle. When you send a dress code suggestion or a contact message, we deliver it to our own team by email through the provider Resend, and we do not use it for any other purpose.

Accounts and submissions

If you sign in to submit a dress code, we store your email address, a display name you choose, and the dress codes you submit, including any photos you attach, with Supabase, our database provider. Your display name is the only part of this that ever appears in public, on a dress code we publish. Your email address is never shown on the site or shared with anyone else. We use this information only to run the submission feature and to review what you send in.

You can download everything your account holds at any time from the “Export my data” link on your account page. It arrives as one file containing your profile, your submissions, your submitted photos' details, and the review history attached to them.

You can also delete your account from the “Delete my account” link on the same page, after typing a confirmation phrase so this never happens by accident. Deleting your account removes your profile and every submission that has not yet been published. A submission of yours already published as a community dress code stays live, since it is part of the site's editorial content by then, but we replace your name on it with “A DressDex reader” so nothing left behind still identifies you.

Your rights and choices

You have the right to do the following.

• Accept or reject non essential cookies through our consent banner.
• Clear your browser cookies at any time to reset your preferences.
• Request information about the data we hold, where this applies under your local privacy laws.

Data retention

Preferences stored in cookies are kept for up to one year. Aggregated analytics data is retained for up to 26 months. We do not retain personally identifiable information beyond what is necessary to fulfil the purposes described above.

Children's privacy

DressDex is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date above. If we make material changes to how we handle cookies or tracking, we will ask for your consent again.
